Jeffries to leave Wakefield early

Wakefield Trinity Wildcats have agreed to release scrum-half Ben Jeffries from the 12 months remaining on his contract.

The 26-year-old Australian told the club he "needs a change of direction" and will leave at the end of this season, his fifth in England.

A club statement said: "The Wildcats have agreed to release him early from his contract but would like to thank him for his sterling services to the club over the last five years.

"Ben is determined to finish his Wildcats career on a high and is looking forward to a play-off finish with the team."

Jeffries, who previously played for Newcastle, Wests Tigers and St George Illawara, is thought to have attracted the interest of Penrith Panthers.
