Aspinwall blow for Giants

Huddersfield Giants have been dealt a major blow with the news that Great Britain tourist Martin Aspinwall will be out for the season after being told he requires a full knee reconstruction.

The 25-year-old former Wigan Warriors winger, who last week signed a new three-year contract, missed the start of the season after undergoing groin surgery and he was carried from the field during Sunday’s 47-28 home defeat by Warrington Wolves.

"The extent of the injury is a massive blow to us," said Giants coach Jon Sharp.

"I really feel sorry Martin. It was a slow start for him but, once he got up and running, he was showing some of his best form and the form that got him on a Great Britain tour.

"To lose someone as important as him is a blow but someone else gets an opportunity in the team."

Huddersfield have dropped from fourth to ninth in Super League after collecting just a point from their last five matches.
