Hull FC are set to release full-back Shaun Briscoe after deciding not to offer him a new contract.
The 24-year-old, who joined Hull in 2003 after being cut by his home-town club Wigan due to wage constraints, is out of contract at the end of the season and looks poised to follow former team-mate Paul Cooke to arch rivals Hull KR.
Briscoe, who has scored 57 tries in 100 appearances for Hull, recently lost his full-back spot to New Zealand utility player Motu Tony.
Coach Peter Sharp has preferred Tony at full-back and Briscoe has played on the wing in the last two matches.
"It has been a very tough decision to make but we have decided not to re-sign Shaun for next year," said Hull chief executive James Rule.
"Salary-cap pressures dictate that it is not economically viable to retain two full-backs on a level of contracts that Shaun and Motu command.
"As a board, we back Peter 100 per cent and we attempt to facilitate all his requests. He, like all head coaches, is tasked with assembling his squad, the performance of which he will be directly accountable for.
"Sport can be a brutal business and unfortunately at times difficult decisions have to be taken for the good of the club.
"However, our ultimate goal is to take Hull FC forward and develop the club and to facilitate that some difficult decisions have to be made."
