Dobson targets former team-mate for Magic showdown

Hull KR playmaker Michael Dobson has identified his former Wigan team-mate Mickey Higham as Warrington’s key danger man with less than two weeks to go before the two sides meet for their Magic Weekend showdown at Murrayfield Stadium, Edinburgh.

Dobson played with Mickey Higham at the JJB Stadium in 2006 but there will be no time for pleasantries when the two come head to head as Hull KR face Warrington in the last game of the Magic Weekend on Sunday 3 May.

Speaking to the official Magic Weekend programme, Michael Dobson said: “I know Mickey from our time together at Wigan and he’s a great player - we need to stop him and the likes of Adrian Morley and Paul Rauhihi from playing.

“Warrington have got some great forwards who can create havoc when given time and space. It’s vital we nullify them so they don’t get the field position to allow the likes of Lee Briers to play.”

The Craven Park favourite has hit a rich vein of form this season and is relishing the midfield organising role handed to him by Hull KR Head Coach Justin Morgan.

Michael Dobson said: “Justin has put the onus on me to take responsibility on the field, and things are going really well this year.

“He’s given me and the other guys a lot of confidence to go out there and play the game we want to play. I’m really enjoying my footie here.

“Our fans this year have been incredible. Wherever Hull KR play they will go and back us. We’ve got to be one of the best-supported teams in Super League”

After enjoying a break in Scotland’s capital three years ago Dobson is looking forward to returning to Edinburgh for the Magic Weekend to sample the famous Murrayfield atmosphere first hand.

He said: “I went there on holiday in 2006 and tried to go to Edinburgh Castle. The queues were too big!

“But it’s a truly beautiful city. It’s an excellent idea to take Super League there and to expand this great game even further.

“I’m certainly looking forward to playing there. I’ve watched a few rugby matches at Murrayfield on television and the atmosphere has always sounded great.”
