Decision On Charge
Player plea From DVD evidence dealt with as guilty plea
Summary of CM's submissions on the Charge / evidence Following a Match Review Panel meeting held on 11 July 2013, you are charged with misconduct for a breach of Law 15.1(a) during the above Match. The Panel reviewed an incident which occurred at the conclusion of the Match. In the Panel’s opinion you became involved in a confrontation between opponents and threw punches in a violent manner. The Panel believed that this behaviour was serious misconduct; against the spirit of the game; that your punches had potential to cause injury; and that your conduct contributed to a prolonged melee occurring. In accordance with the RFL’s On Field Sentencing Guidelines, the Panel consider that such offence is a Grade B offence (Strikes – Punching). If found to have committed the offence, again in accordance with the On Field Sentencing Guidelines, the normal suspension range for such offence is from a 1 to a 2 match suspension. In addition the Tribunal has the power to impose such fine as it considers reasonable. Under the RFL Disciplinary Guidelines you are not eligible to take an Early Guilty Plea due to your previous disciplinary record.
Summary of Player's submissions on the Charge / evidence Non attendance of player an e mail from the club indicates the player was unable to attend due to short notice no indication from club as to the players intention of plea
Decision Guilty
Reasons for Decision The tribunal are dismayed that this player has not been represented at this hearing when a club representative was present with another player involved in the same incident. It is clear from the DVD that after the final whistle this player becomes involved in a brawl involving players from both teams. He can be seen throwing punches at opponents on one occasion on a two onto one situation. As a result of his actions there is no doubt he is guilty of misconduct.
Decision On Sanction (where found to have committed Misconduct)
Summary of CM's submissions on the appropriate sanction No additional submissions
Summary of Player's submissions on the appropriate sanction Non attendance or representation from the club
Aggravating Factors Involved in a mass brawl after the final whistle
Mitigating Factors
Reasons for Decision This was a very serious incident that took place after the final whistle. In deciding the appropriate sanction this tribunal take into account the fact this player has one previous appearance for disciplinary matters in this current year and feel that a 2 match suspension and £25 fine is appropriate
Suspension 2 matches
Fine £25
