Decision On Charge
Player plea Guilty plea
Summary of CM's submissions on the Charge / evidence Following a Match Review Panel meeting held on 11 April 2013, you are charged with misconduct for a breach of Law 15.1(i), Behaves in any way contrary to the true spirit of the game, during the above Match. The Panel reviewed an incident which occurred in approximately the 78th minute of the Match. You were temporarily dismissed by the Match Referee during this incident. In the Panel’s opinion you unnecessarily threw a punch in a violent manner at an opponent. You then threw further punches in a violent manner at another opponent. After having been temporarily dismissed by the Match Referee you are then seen to incite your opponent by running towards him and making comments. This resulted in a further confrontation in the tunnel area. The Panel believed that this behaviour was serious misconduct, against the spirit of the game, and that your punches had the potential to cause injury. Your conduct also contributed to two unsightly melees occurring. In accordance with the RFL’s On Field Sentencing Guidelines, the Panel consider that such offence is a Grade D offence (Other Contrary Behaviour/Punching). If found to have committed the offence, again in accordance with the On Field Sentencing Guidelines, the normal suspension range for such offence is a suspension of 3-5 matches. In addition the Tribunal has the power to impose such fine as it considers reasonable. Under the RFL Disciplinary Guidelines you are ineligible to take an Early Guilty Plea due to the seriousness of the charge.

Aggravating Factors
Mitigating Factors
Reasons for Decision This was a disgraceful incident overall. The incident started on the pitch involving this player and an opponent and then continued as they were leaving the field. It is noted this player admits throwing punches on the field and having some banter with the opponent as they left the field which may have affected the opponents subsequent behaviour. The player denies being responsible for the incident in the tunnel where he was the recipient of several blows. The tribunal feel the grading is correct in this case. Taking into account all the surrounding circumstances and the fact the player has pleaded guilty and shown remorse and has a reasonably good record over a 10 year career this tribunal feel that a 3 match suspension and £50 fine is appropriate
Suspension 3 matches
Fine £50
