Hull Kingston Rovers duo Stanley Gene and Makali Aizue have been included in Papua New Guinea’s preliminary 49-man squad for the World Cup.

Coach Adrian Lam has selected the pair, along with Salford’s Jon Wilshere in a squad that includes 27 residents of Papua New Guinea and four players from Australia’s NRL.

It will be Gene’s third appearance at the tournament after representing the Kumuls in 1995 and 2000.
