Louis Anderson inspired the Catalan Dragons to their first win in six First Utility Super League games in 2014 with two tries in a 30-14 victory over Huddersfield Giants.

The hosts’ poor form during the early part of the season had raised doubts over the future of coach Laurent Frayssinous.

However, such a convincing victory over last season’s league leaders eased the unrest in the south of France.

Anderson stole the show with his tries and committed defence but this was a team effort.

From the off, the Catalans forwards dominated their opponents and they kept that up throughout the game.

Catalans opened the scoring after 15 minutes with Eloi Pelissier and Morgan Escare creating a gap for Zeb Taia to charge through and score on the left-hand side, with Thomas Bosc adding the conversion.

The Dragons scored again four minutes later as Bosc’s short ball to Anderson saw the former Kiwi international charge over the Huddersfield try-line. Bosc’s conversion doubled the lead and the same player also made the most of a penalty just after the half-hour.

Five minutes after the break, Anderson scored the try of the game - Elliott Whitehead, Pelissier, Lopini Paea, Taia and Mathias Pala all involved as the ball was sent one way then the other before Anderson got his hands on it and dived over to score.

The win was all-but sealed with an hour played, Pala breaking away down the left before passing inside to Escare – who dived over.

Huddersfield did come back into the game, Scott Grix scoring with 15 minutes remaining and Danny Brough converting to register the Giants' first points of the game and reduce the deficit to 24-6.

The Giants scored again without the Dragons touching the ball, Brough's long pass finding Brett Ferres – who powered his way over to score and narrow the hosts' lead further.

However, the nerves of the home supporters were eased with five minutes remaining when Whitehead pounced on Pelissier's kick through.

The Giants did have the last say, Jodie Broughton scoring in the left corner in the final moments.
