Wakefield captain Danny Kirmond grabbed an excellent hat-trick as the Trinity Wildcats celebrated their 140th anniversary in style at a packed Rapid Solicitors Stadium.

Roared on by 8,203 fans, the hosts set the tone with tries from Peter Fox and Richard Mathers from close range inside the first 12 minutes. Second-rower Kirmond then touched down twice - once either side of a Paul Sykes effort - with Lee Smith five out of five in the opening period.

London Broncos pulled one back just before the break when Liam Colbon collected an excellent offload from debutant Harry Little.

Kieran Dixon's double after the interval closed the Broncos' deficit to 16 points, but Kirmond dived over for his treble after the hour mark and Frankie Mariano and Kyle Wood added further late scores for the Wildcats.

Wakefield named Andy Raleigh on the bench due to the suspension of Paul Aiton, while Matty Wildie started the game with the wantaway Wood also among the substitutes.

London handed debuts to Joel Wicks, Little and Jacob Fairbank; the latter has now played for four teams this season, with 11 Broncos players absent because of injuries.

The home side took an early lead when a free-flowing move down the right side exposed poor defending from Michael Channing, and Dean Collis supplied Fox to barge over in the corner.

Smith converted from the touchline, and he added the two again when Mathers crossed from close range after he fooled the defence with a delightful dummy.

Another soft try was conceded by the Londoners midway through the first half as Kirmond went over from dummy-half.

Tim Smith came up with a special play to make it 24-0 four when he dummied and his pass was collected by Sykes for the converted score.

A mix of strong play by Kirmond and poor visiting defence then saw the second-rower power over despite the attention of four defenders to make it 30-0.

The Broncos finally crossed before half-time as Little, who performed well on his debut, used great footwork to get on the outside of his defender and provided a sublime one-handed flick pass for Colbon to dive over in the corner.

Mathers' cut-out pass almost sent Fox over for his second after the break but a great tackle by Dixon prevented him.

Dixon then surged over for a try after collecting a short ball from Luke Dorn, and Shane Grady converted - hitting the Wildcats' ice-cream van in the process - to reduce the deficit to 20.

The visitors then closed the gap further when Dixon rounded off Michael Robertson's break with a fine finish down the left for his second, and 18th try of the season.

But, with some great yardage carries by Fox and Cockayne, the Wildcats strengthened their lead when Kirmond ran an excellent line to collect Smith's pass for his hat-trick, and Mariano and Wood crossed late on to seal the rout.
