Wigan Warriors made it seven Super League wins on the bounce with a nine-try hammering of Salford City Reds at the DW Stadium.

Wigan led 22-0 at the break with Sam Tomkins scoring one and having a hand in three others as they completely dominated a Salford side who looked out of their depth in defence and clueless in attack.

Tomkins set up Josh Charnley's second after the break and managed to cross over for his double as the league leaders proved too strong for the Reds, who suffered a 42-0 defeat to the Warriors in their opening game of the season.

Wigan took less than two minutes to open the scoring as they breached the Salford defence in their first set.

Blake Green and Tomkins combined superbly to send Darrell Goulding clear and he drew in his man to send Charnley racing down the touchline to score in the corner.

Seven minutes later and the Warriors were in once more as Tomkins combined with Goulding again down the right before Sean O'Loughlin sent out a short ball for Ben Flower to race on to and score.

Wigan's third try came just before the 15-minute mark but it looked like coming at cost. Iain Thornley and Tomkins linked nicely down the left before sending Anthony Gelling in at the corner - the giant winger was then led from the field holding his arm as he looked to land awkwardly while grounding the ball.

Matty Smith missed his third conversion of the night, and the Reds started to find their way in the game without creating many chances - their best effort seeing Danny Williams bundled into touch just short of the try-line.

The Warriors scored twice more before the break as O'Loughlin sent out an amazing ball for Tomkins to go over before Green turned provider for Liam Farrell to touch down - with Charnley registering the first conversion of the night - as Wigan led 22-0 at the break.

Harrison Hansen almost scored the best try of his career as he burst up the middle following good work from former Hull FC prop Epalahame Lauaki and O'Loughlin but he was held inches short.

Wigan went in for their sixth try of the evening on 50 minutes and Tomkins was involved again as he sent out a long ball to the right and Charnley showed his opposite number a clean pair of heels to grab his second of the night. The winger converted for a 28-0 advantage.

The Warriors extended their lead further six minutes later as Lee Mossop burst onto a short ball from Michael McIlorum to touch down by the side of the post, with Charnley converting.

It was turning into a training session for the Warriors as Charnley returned the favour to Tomkins by sending an inside ball for the full-back to grab his second.

Salford's heads were well and truly down by the time Green grabbed a deserved try as he forced his way over from close range and Charnley added the extras to make it 46-0.

But the Reds had the final say as Adam Walne forced his way over and Marc Sneyd converted.
