Hull KR went some way to restoring pride after their record defeat last week by beating St Helens 22-14 today.

Much was made of Rovers' 84-6 defeat at home to Wigan Warriors on Easter Monday and they bounced back in style this afternoon.

It was a game Rovers simply could not afford to lose. After the worst defeat in their 131-year history on Monday, chairman Neil Hudgell made it clear in his programme notes that he and the current board do not have the resources to take Rovers to the next big step.

While continuing his look for future investment, Hudgell knows wins on the pitch will help make Rovers a more attractive proposition to a potential buyer.

Saints, who were looking for their first victory at Craven Park since 2007, lost Mark Flanagan to a third minute knee injury and they conceded the game's first try.

From an attacking scrum 20 metres out, Michael Dobson passed to Greg Eden, who sent David Hodgson over in the left corner for his ninth try of the season.

Dobson protected his hamstring by giving the kicking duties to Craig Hall, whose conversion rebounded off the upright.

But the Robins increased their lead when Josh Hodgson spotted a very small gap under the posts to stretch out and score from dummy half, with Hall this time making no mistake with the conversion.

Rovers were guilty of not defending properly on the blindside where Mark Percival was sent over the line by Tommy Makinson on the first tackle.

Rising star Percival enhanced his growing reputation by splitting the uprights with the conversion to cut Rovers' lead to four points after 30 minutes.

Percival's second try of the game levelled matters three minutes before the interval, with Rovers winger Alex Brown caught coming inside and leaving a big gap for Percival to sprint clear and score from 35 metres.

The youngster missed the conversion to send the sides in at the break level at 10-10.

Rovers began the second half by forcing a goal-line drop out after completing their first set. But they were unable to convert it into points as Sia Soliola's hit on Jordan Cox forced the knock on.

Rovers went back in front when Cory Paterson was in the right place to take Dobson's clever assist over despite the attention of Saints captain Paul Wellens. Hall landed the conversion to give Rovers a 16-10 lead after 50 minutes.

Saints showed their class soon after, however, by turning defence into attack in a split second.

Rovers were awarded a penalty 15 metres from the Saints line and when Eden's pass outside went to ground, Adam Swift swooped to pick up the loose ball and sprinted the remaining 90 metres untouched.

Remarkably, Percival missed the conversion which was the easiest of his kicks up until then. It left Saints trailing 16-14 with 18 minutes to play.

Back came the Robins and on the right-hand side of their attack, Eden showed great hands to get the ball outside to his winger Brown to score.

Hall's conversion from the right hand touchline went wide, leaving six points between the two sides, although the winger sealed victory with a last-minute penalty.
