Goalkicking winger Jamie Foster reached a century of points as Hull FC clinched a trip to Warrington Wolves in the second round of the Stobart Super League play-offs with a nine-try rout of a sorry-looking Huddersfield Giants.
Foster, who is playing on a week-to-week loan from St Helens, scored two tries and kicked seven goals for a personal haul of 22 points which took his tally to 106 in just eight matches.
Hull will now seek permission to play Foster against the Wolves at the Halliwell Jones Stadium next Saturday after he made his mark on his final appearance at the KC Stadium.
Second rower Willie Manu and centre Jordan Turner, who will be Foster’s team-mates at St Helens next season, also showed the Hull faithful what they will be missing next season with classy farewell home performances.
Hull never looked back after left winger Tom Briscoe crossed for two tries in an early six-minute spell.
He grabbed his first straight from a scrum 20 metres out after Hull had managed to create an overlap and added his second when Manu superbly offloaded from a two-man tackle.
With Foster adding a conversion, Hull were good for their 10-0 lead but they were unable to build on it in a stop-start first half in which neither side were able to find any cohesion.
England prop Eorl Crabtree produced a Herculean stint for Huddersfield, in defence as well as attack, but the Giants lacked creativity, with former Hull scrum-half Danny Brough failing miserably to repeat his match-winning efforts against Leeds Rhinos a week earlier.
Hull went close to increasing their lead, with Foster and hooker Danny Houghton having tries disallowed for infringements in the build-up, but their only addition before half-time was an injury-time penalty from Foster.
However, it took the home side just 40 seconds to gain some breathing space, with Turner breaking out of his own half to send Foster over at the corner for his first try.
That gave the Black and Whites the confidence they needed to go through the gears and they continued to exploit Huddersfield’s weakness on their left flank, with Turner getting an unmarked Foster over for his second try.
Having exposed the visitors on both flanks, Hull also began to find holes down the middle as prop Liam Watts beat three defenders to force his way over for his first try for the club.
The Giants were in complete disarray by then and impressive scrum-half Aaron Heremaia piled on the agony with a seventh try after re-gathering his own kick over the defence.
The admirable Crabtree went 30 metres on a solo run to score a deserved try for the visitors and full-back Scott Grix added another shortly afterwards to provide the scoreline with a touch of respectability.
However, Hull had the final say when captain Andy Lynch powered his way over and former Huddersfield second rower Martin Aspinwall broke clear to send full-back Richard Horne for the final try, which took him up to 10th in the club’s all-time list.
