Warrington Wolves are the 2011 Rugby League 9s series champions after beating Cumbria 18-10 in the Grand Final of the competition at Headingley Carnegie Stadium last night.

The Wolves collected the All Golds Cup and £10,000 for winning the competition whilst Leeds Rhinos picked up the Rugby League 9s Plate beating Salford in the Plate Final 32-15.

A crowd of 1912 gathered for the inaugural Rugby League 9s Grand Final night which featured Wigan Warriors, Hull FC, Wakefield Wildcats, Castleford Tigers, Warrington Wolves, Salford City Reds, Cumbria and Leeds Rhinos

Rugby League’s Fastest Man Sprint took place on the Headingley Carnegie pitch before the Grand Final and was won by Jodie Broughton of Salford City Reds narrowly beating Leeds Rhinos’ Ben Jones-Bishop in a photo finish with Warrington’s Rhys Evans finishing third.

Player of the tournament went to Cumbrian flyer Loz Hamzat who scored four tries on the finals night as the crowd pleasing Cumbrians pushed Warrington all the way.

RFL Chief Operating Officer Ralph Rimmer said: “The Rugby League 9s Grand Final was a fitting end to the inaugural series.

“The 9s competition has provided some great entertainment over the last few weeks and has highlighted the potential which exists with this form of the game.

“I’d like to congratulate Warrington Wolves on their triumph as well as Cumbria for putting a fantastic show on and thank all the clubs that took part in the 9s series and got behind the concept.”
