Quartet step up for Rhinos
Leeds Rhinos have promoted four players from their academy to their Engage Super League squad for 2011.
Jared Stewart, Brad Singleton, Liam Hood and Callum Casey are among 17 players in Leeds’ 30-strong squad, which has an average age of 25, to have come through the club’s academy structure.
Casey is the son of former Oldham and Ireland forward Leo Casey and the oldest of three brothers on the Rhinos books.
New signing Ben Cross has been awarded the number 15 shirt while number 20 will be reserved for the possibility of another new recruit.
“The departure of Matt Diskin creates some flexibility for the potential of a new player if someone of the right calibre can be found,” said chief executive Gary Hetherington, who is currently in Australia for the Four Nations Series.
Back rower Carl Ablett is promoted to number 12 at the expense of Samoan international Ali Lauitiiti, Lee Smith takes the number two shirt vacated by Scott Donald and Luke Burgess and Kallum Watkins also move up the pecking order.
