Lupton and Winterstein sign new deals
New Crusaders RL head coach Iestyn Harris continued his preparations for the 2011 season by tieing up two more of last year’s regulars.
Stand-off Peter Lupton and back row forward Frank Winterstein, who were among a host of players on 12-month contracts in 2010, have signed new two-year deals.
This follows the decision to hand centre Vince Mellars a new three-year contract and the unveiling of Bradford Bulls winger Stuart Reardon as Harris’ first signing since taking over from Brian Noble.
Lupton, 28, was an ever-present in Crusaders’ first season in Wrexham after joining them from Castleford Tigers, while Samoan international Winterstein, 23, made 29 appearances following his arrival from Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.
“I’m delighted that both Peter and Frank are going to be with us for the next two seasons,” said Harris.
“Peter was one of our unsung heroes last season. He had to play in a few positions for us because of injuries and he did really well for us.
“Frank showed a lot of promise last season. He’s only 23 and he’s going to get better and better.”
