Hull FC have confirmed the signing of rising star Jamie Ellis on a two-year deal from Co-operative Championship leaders Leigh.

The 21-year-old scrum-half, who has been in stunning form for Ian Millward’s table-toppers this season, will move to the KC Stadium at the end of the year.

Ellis started his career at St Helens, learning from current Hull playmaker Sean Long before moving on to Leigh.

“They are a massive club with loads of potential,” Ellis, a tourist with the England schoolboys, said.

“They are a big Super League club and I can’t wait. This is an opportunity to show what I can do and prove exactly how good I can be with help from people like (coach) Richard Agar and Longy.”

Rather than holding Ellis back, Millward admits he was happy to see his star man decide his future lies elsewhere.

“Jamie has all the attributes in his game to be a top class Super League player,” he said.

“He has the potential to go on and enjoy representative honours. He has bags of potential and this is something I have discussed at length with Richard Agar. We weren’t going to stand in his way.”
