Carnegie Challenge Cup third round draw made
The draw for the third round of the 2011 Carnegie Challenge Cup was made today 900 feet above ground level at the top of the Emley Moor television mast – the tallest free-standing building in Britain.
The draw was conducted by Richard Silverwood, the man in the middle for the 2010 Carnegie Challenge Cup final, and Billy Thompson, who refereed the first of his three Wembley finals 40 years ago.
The third round draw saw all 21 Co-operative Championship and Championship One clubs make their bow in the competition.
Joining the Co-operative Championships clubs were 13 community clubs, the Army and French champions FC Lezignan.
One of the ties of the round sees last season’s Co-operative Championship beaten finalists Featherstone Rovers host The Army, who secured their place in the third round after an impressive victory over fellow armed forced side The RAF in Round Two.
Defending Co-operative Championship winners Halifax RLFC face a third round encounter at home to Castleford Lock Lane while 2010’s Northern Rail Cup winners Batley Bulldogs will face the winners of the postponed second round tie between Fryston and Bradford Dudley Hill.
All third round ties will be played over the weekend of March 5 and 6.
