Barrow sign three young Giants

Barrow Raiders have signed 3 players from Huddersfield Giants on dual registration.

The three players are Adam Walker, a prop forward who has appeared for Huddersfield's first team, Greg McNally, originally a half-back at Whitehaven who has enjoyed success playing at full back and Joe Wardle,  a centre who can play at stand-off. He possesses a good kicking game and was signed from the Bradford Bulls for whom he made two first team appearances last season.

Barrow Chairman Des Johnston said, “I have seen very little of my bed this week in chasing up potential recruits for Barrow Raiders. There have been approaches from agents and players wanting to come to the club but I have pursued those that I feel will best serve the coach and the club in offering value for money whilst providing cover in positions where we most need it.”

The three players, all of whom are 20 years of age,  have a great deal of potential and are tipped for long careers in Super League. All three players have been signed on an initial month long loan deal which will be reviewed at the end of that period.

The Chairman added, “I am extremely pleased in being able to bring three highly rated British youngsters to the club. All are on the verge of playing in Super League and will no doubt benefit from playing at Barrow which will help raise their profiles as it did with Lee Mossop and Jermaine McGillvary. Huddersfield Giants have been very professional throughout my dealings with them for which I am very grateful”

A delighted Head Coach Garry Schofield said, “Des knew where we needed strengthening and has come up with the goods. This will not only give me more options but will put pressure on places in the team. All three have been identified as potential future stars of the game.”
