Smith leaves Hull KR
Hull KR have announced they will "reluctantly" release Michael Smith at the player's request due to family commitments.
The Kiwi second row revealed he may need to return to his homeland this year and described the news as "one of the most difficult decisions of my life".
Rovers chairman Neil Hudgell said: "Michael approached us about releasing him from his contract due to his family commitments and we have reluctantly agreed with immediate effect.
"He was an integral part of our promotion to Super League and a real favourite of the fans. Michael leaves with our very best wishes."
Smith added: "Due to my family commitments I have found it very difficult to remain committed to the demands of the full-time environment knowing I may need to return to New Zealand at some stage this year.
"I have enjoyed my time here and have made some fantastic friends. I wish to thank Justin (Morgan, head coach), Neil and the supporters who made me feel so welcome.
"For this reason I had to make one of the most difficult decisions of my life and leave the club immediately."
