Oxford will be looking to atone for last year's humiliation in the 27th Pcubed Rugby League Varsity match at The Twickenham Stoop on Wednesday.

Cambridge were 44-0 winners 12 months ago, the first whitewash in the history of the event and Dark Blues skipper Matt Wordsworth admits: "There is a lot of desire to avenge last year's embarrassment."

Oxford's preparations have included narrow defeats against Harlequins RL Under-18s and Catalans Dragons Under-20s and they have received training tips from Catalans head coach Mick Potter.

Cambridge chairman Martin Woodcock insists his side will not be taking Oxford lightly, despite the ease of last year's victory.

"We're very aware that they've had a much more consistent set of results this year," he said.

"We've heard reports that they're a much more structured team this year and they're not going to fall apart.

"There's massive pride at stake. It is the biggest thing in our season."

Cambridge substitute Sam Gluck is preparing for his third Varsity match while three of the Light Blues' pack also played in last year's contest alongside full-back James Fowler and wingers Ian Neill and Indraneil Basu.

Oxford hooker Jonnie Gorrie will be playing in his third Rugby League Varsity clash.
