Webster retains Hull KR captaincy

Promoted Hull KR have re-appointed Australian scrum-half James Webster as captain for their inaugural season in engage Super League.

Promoted Hull KR have re-appointed Australian scrum-half James Webster as captain for their inaugural season in engage Super League.

Former Castleford Tigers and Leeds Rhinos prop Danny Ward, one of nine new signings, will be the new vice-captain to the 27-year-old Webster, who led the team to victory over Widnes Vikings in last September's National League Grand Final.

‚"James did a great job last season and the boys have a lot of respect for him,‚" said coach Justin Morgan. ‚"He guides them around the park and organises them well on the field.

‚"Danny has impressed me since he arrived and he has built up a good relationship with some of the younger boys.‚"

Meanwhile, loose forward Tommy Gallagher is a major doubt for Rovers' league opener against Wakefield Trinity Wildcats at Craven Park on February 10.

The former Toulouse player, who scored 14 tries in 32 appearances in Rovers' promotion-winning campaign, picked up a calf strain in the final session of the team's training camp in Torremolinos.
