RFL chief leads tribute to Southward
Rugby Football League executive chairman Richard Lewis has led the tributes to rugby league legend Ike Southward, who has died at the age of 71.
Southward scored 1,432 points in 375 appearances for Workington in the 1950s and 60s and won 11 Great Britain caps, which included tours of the southern hemisphere in 1958 and 1962, and also coached both Workington and Whitehaven.
‚"The RFL would like to express our sincere condolences to Ike Southward's family following this tremendously sad news,‚" said Lewis.
‚"We join with the wider rugby league community in mourning the loss of a man who achieved so much in our sport.
‚"We are sure Ike Southward will be remembered for his tremendous record as a player and a coach and as a representative of both Cumbria and Great Britain.‚"
