Gateshead Thunder 34-26 Hemel Stags
Gateshead move up to fourth
Gateshead Thunder leapfrogged Hemel into fourth spot in the Kingstone Press Championship 1 table with a 34-26 victory over the Stags at the Gateshead International Stadium.
Matty Beharrell and Jacob Blades scored early tries for the hosts and Ben Hardcastle added a goal to see Thuder take a 10-0 lead before a try from Alex Ingarfield converted by Barry John Swindells got the Stags back into the game.
Blades went over three minutes before the interval to give Thunder a 14-6 half-time advantage.
Tom Capper (2) and James Cameron breached the Stags' defence and Hardcaslte added a further goal as Gateshead gave themselves some breathing space early in the second half.
But Hemel battled back and Evan Simons went over with Swindells converting.
But back came Gateshead with further tries from Chris Heil and Rhys Clarke and another Hardcaslte goal.
Swindells crossed for the Stags as they again battled back. Jermaine Coleman crossed again four minutes from time with Jy-Mel Coleman tagging on the extras but they'd left themselves with too much to do.
