Thornhill Trojans awarded £1000 by Tetley's

West Yorkshire-based community club Thornhill Trojans were this week awarded £1,000 by Challenge Cup sponsors Tetley’s, as part of their ongoing Pass It On campaign.


The club won the prize by securing the most mentions on Facebook and Twitter during the initiative’s second month, and were presented with their cheque by former players and current Super League stars Danny Brough, of Huddersfield Giants, and Paul Sykes, of Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.


Thornhill Trojans Chairman Gordon Ratcliffe said: “This £1,000 is the culmination of lots of hard work. For Tetley’s to offer this to clubs, who are always struggling to find finances, is fantastic.”


Tetley’s, proud sponsors of Rugby League’s most historic and prestigious competition, the Challenge Cup, launched the Pass It On campaign using social media to reward the spirit and commitment of those playing Rugby League throughout the community game


Clubs are encouraged to motivate their supporters to join in the online conversations on Facebook and Twitter by mentioning their sides.


The club that receives the highest number of mentions at the end of each month will win £1000 and the club with the most votes at the end of the competition will be rewarded for their efforts with the ultimate club day out: a team bus filled with Tetley’s to take to the Tetley’s Challenge Cup final at Wembley Stadium on Saturday August 23.


Tetley’s is also using the competition to bring the time-honoured tradition of swapping match stories over a pint, into the digital age.


Fans will have the chance to win VIP tickets to the Tetley’s Challenge Cup final, by sharing their favourite Rugby League stories across social media.


The brand’s allegiance with the RFL has secured Rugby League stars and legends including Kevin Sinfield, Ray French and Brian Noble, who are sharing their own memories via the official Tetley’s Challenge Cup Facebook and Twitter pages.


Rugby League celebrities will also be tasked with judging the prize-winning stories from those that have been shared by the fans.


Running alongside the monthly prizes, there will be weekly chances to win Tetley’s Challenge Cup game tickets, for anyone who uses the #TetleysPassItOn hashtag on Facebook or Twitter.
