Settle College Girls take the title
Settle College won the Girls Year 11 National Champion Schools Final against the slight favourites St Peter & Pauls in a tight contest.
Played in glorious sunshine on a superb pitch, at First Utility Super League club Castleford Tigers, Settle College of North Yorkshire beat St Peter & Paul of Halton 16-6, in an entertaining match.
With tight and controlled play, neither team could find gap in a rare scoreless first half.
Even when Settle managed to find what they thought was a try scoring opportunity, player-of-the-match Emily Douglas of St Peter & Pauls in the full-back position wasn’t to be passed pulling of a couple of try saving tackles.
However the score sheet didn’t stay blank for long in the second half, St Peter & Paul getting hit with a trio of tries in the 10 minutes through Alice Jones, Lucy Dean and Jasmine Pennett, with Niamh Benson and Emily Ward adding two conversions, took the score to 16-0.
St Peter & Paul never gave up and were duly rewarded with 10 minutes to go with a try through Olivia Miah, converted by Emily Douglas.
But it was to be Settle’s day, regrouping and holding out the last ditch attempts to cross the line to run out 16-6 winners and take the national title.
