Thornley facing season KO

Wigan centre Iain Thornley is set to miss the rest of the season after being told he needs surgery to repair a torn pectoral muscle.

Wigan Warriors centre Iain Thornley is set to miss the rest of the season after being told he needs surgery to repair a torn pectoral muscle.

The 22-year-old played in the First Utility Super League champions' opening eight matches of their title defence but is set for an extended lay-off after sustaining his pectoral injury in their Good Friday victory at St Helens.

The Warriors' 33-14 win at Langtree Park came at a cost, with prop forwards Ben Flower (ankle) and Eddy Pettybourne (calf) also facing lay-offs while skipper Sean O'Loughlin is set to sit out Sunday's Tetley's Challenge Cup fifth-round tie against Hunslet with a minor neck problem.

"Losing two front rowers for a decent amount of time is a blow to us, but we have to deal with it," head coach Shaun Wane said.

"Iain will have an operation (on Thursday), Ben is probably six weeks and Eddy is a couple of weeks off."

Matty Bowen, Matty Smith and Joe Burgess are set to return to face the Hawks after being rested for Monday's 84-6 win over Bradford Bulls, while Wane confirmed that 18-year-old prop Ryan Sutton will keep his place after making an encouraging debut last time out.
