Stags hold off Scorpions

South Wales Scorpions are still looking for their first victory of the Kingstone Press Championship 1 season after they slipped to a 34-16 defeat to Hemel Stags in Maesteg.

Osian Phillips crossed for an 18th-minute try converted by Paul Emanuelli as the Scorpions went into an early 6-0 lead but the Stags battled back and tries from Barry John Swindells, Aaron Small and Michael Brown with a goal from Swindells saw the visitors take control at 14-6 at the break.

Hemel picked up where they left off as James Cameron went over three minutes into the second half and Swindells added the extras.

James Hill, Ryan Pratchett and Lee Hudson added further tries for the Stags as they stretched their advantage further before the hosts crossed for a pair of consolation tries from Chris Vitalini and Phil Carleton.
