The RFL has sent its condolences to the family of Keith Burhouse, the RFL Roll of Honour member who died at the weekend after a long illness.

Mr Burhouse played an active role as a volunteer for 30 years. A Huddersfield fan for more than six decades, he dedicated himself to helping his beloved club, carrying out a vast array of voluntary tasks from replacing roofs and rewiring the old Fartown ground to driving the team bus and raising money for associated charities.

During 2013 he catalogued all of the collection at the Heritage Centre and arranged for it to be stored securely until a new home is found. He was inducted on to the RFL of Honour in January 2014.

RFL Chief Operating Officer Ralph Rimmer said: “We are saddened to hear of Keith’s death and our thoughts are with his family at this time.

“In many ways Keith was ‘Mr Huddersfield’ and both the club and the sport owe him a great debt for his hard work, especially during the days at Fartown where he played an important role in keeping Huddersfield in existence.

"Keith’s recent induction to the RFL Roll of Honour was  thoroughly deserved recognition of his contribution and all of us that knew him well would testify to his unstinting services to the game.

“Keith fought his illness with stoicism and bravery. He will be much missed.”

A funeral service will be held at Newsome Church, Huddersfield, at 12.45pm on Wednesday March 19 followed by a service at Huddersfield Crematorium (2.00pm). Following the service, everyone is invited to join Keith's family for a funeral tea at the John Smith's Stadium.
