Red Devils set for cross-code clash
Salford Red Devils will face Sale of rugby union's Premiership in a cross-code challenge at the AJ Bell Stadium they share on Sunday, August 26.
The co-tenants will play one half of rugby union and the other under rugby league rules in a similar fashion to Sale's match against St Helens in 2003 which ended in a 41-39 win for the Sharks.
The match will also bring back memories of the 1996 double-header between Bath and Wigan at Maine Road and Twickenham.
Salford coach Brian Noble said: "This is a great opportunity for our guys to pit their skills against different athletes. It will be a big challenge but I think they'll relish it. The fact that this is for two such fantastic causes is going to be a big motivator for both teams."
Sale director of rugby Steve Diamond said: "Our players will definitely be up for the challenge."
The AJ Bell Trust has committed to donating at least £50,000 from the proceeds of the match to The Princes' Trust and Maggie's, which is trying to raise £6million to build a new centre at The Christie to provide support to cancer sufferers.
