RFL shortlisted as Sport Governing Body of the Year

RFL's standing recognised for a fourth successive year

The RFL has been shortlisted for the prestigious 2014 Sport Governing Body of the Year Award, sponsored by the Daily Telegraph, as part of the Sports Industry Awards 2014.

This is the fourth-consecutive year that Rugby League’s governing body has been shortlisted for the accolade, which uses the four key pillars of governance - Performance, Leadership, Community and Ethics – to create a shortlist of the standout bodies from across the UK over the period January 2013 to December 2013.

The RFL has been shortlisted alongside British Athletics, British Cycling, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), England Netball and the Football Association (FA). The winners will be announced at the annual Sports Industry Awards ceremony on Thursday May 8.

RFL Chief Executive Nigel Wood said: “To be shortlisted for this prestigious award for a fourth year in succession is a terrific achievement.

“We are working hard to embrace the lasting legacy that has been left by our delivery of the most successful  Rugby League World Cup of all time, a tournament which came towards the end of a year which saw the sport continue to make positive and meaningful progress.

“Our shortlisting is further recognition of the dedication and commitment of a team of RFL and RLWC2013 colleagues whose passion for this extraordinary sport continues to shine through. They should feel proud of their efforts.”

The six governing bodies join the other brands, campaigns and organisations that have been shortlisted after a rigorous steering process involving more than 50 key figures from across the industry and 60 hours of intensive judging, fully overseen by Deloitte, the Official Independent Scrutineer of the Sport Industry Awards, to ensure absolute transparency and impartiality, the list of nominees represents the best the industry had to offer in 2013.
