WIDNES Vikings stars will swap their playing shirts for chefs whites and aprons as the players cook up a storm at Nando’s Widnes next week.

As part of the  Vikings in the Community Programme, Denis Betts’ men will be serving Nando’s customers on Tuesday, 14 January as they man the grills, tills and wait on tables, as well as welcoming guests at the front door.

It’s the first time the Vikings have linked up with Nando’s Widnes in this way, and the restaurant is expecting a big turn out as they capture the Vikings in a totally different environment that they are used to.

However, the Vikings do have some talented cooks and Betts has sent the players with the best culinary skills to take part in the community initiative.

As well as receiving excellent service and a tasty chicken meal, Nando’s customers will also be able to take part in a raffle with a distinctive Nando’s flavour.

All raffle proceeds will go directly to the Vikings in the Community programme.  Fans who can’t attend the Vikings take-over Nando’s night can still purchase tickets by contacting the club. Tickets are priced at £5 per strip.

Prizes on offer are:

  • a family ticket to the London Broncos game on Sunday, February 16 followed by a meal at the restaurant,

  • a Nando’s meal with the winner's favourite player,

  • a signed Widnes Vikings jersey,

  • free Nando’s for a year - the ultimate for any Nando’s lover;!

Liam Clarke, Widnes Vikings Community Officer, said: “This is a great opportunity for fans to get down to Nando’s at The Hive to see their heroes in a totally different way. Fans are used to seeing the First Team players on the i-pitch – not waiting on tables and grilling chicken!

“All chicken sold between 6-8pm time will be donated to the Vikings Community programme.”

Michelle Holmes, Head of Commercial at the Vikings, added: “We have a great relationship with Nando’s and this event, we hope, is the first of many community driven evenings that both Widnes Vikings and Nando’s do together. It’s certainly a night not to be missed for any Vikings fan.

“Widnes Vikings would like to thank Nando’s Widnes for its support for the opportunity, which with the attendance of our supporters has the potential to raise a significant amount for forthcoming community programmes and initiatives.”
