Honley named school of the year
Honley High School have been named the National School of the Year.
The Huddersfield outfit – led by Sean Folan – have enjoyed a fantastic year which has seen them introduce extra-curricular Rugby League to all boys from Year 7 to Year 11 and then culminate in their Year 8 side winning the Champion Schools title.
The school also offers one-to-one coaching and support to all its players and users the game a vehicle to teaching students key behaviours and values that they can use in wider life.
After their Year 8 side booked their place in the national final a huge fund-raising effort saw them make £6,000 in just three months as well as securing sponsors for a new kit and equipment.
The school is now in the process of creating playing opportunities for girls and will be hoping to see them in action in the Champion Schools competition next year.
