World Cup Final programme tribute from Tournament Director
Ahead of what is set to be a record-breaking Rugby League World Cup 2013 Final tomorrow, Tournament Director Nigel Wood has paid tribute everyone involved in staging the event.
Writing in the World Cup Final programme Wood said: ‘I believe Rugby League World Cup 2013 will be judged as the most successful World Cup this sport has ever staged and I would like to thank sincerely all those who have contributed to this world class event.’
In his matchday welcome Wood also looks to future opportunities saying;
‘The success of the tournament not only provides the Rugby League International Federation with the resource to move the sport forward, but it also offers the sport domestically a great launch pad for the next few years. Young players inspired to take our game up, new supporters drawn in to the quality of the athleticism our matches offer and new commercial partners recognising what great values association with our sport offers. It is all our tasks to ensure that the opportunities presented by the event are fully exploited and developed in order that our last objective, that our sport is more widely recognised, is achieved.’
The World Cup Final programme also includes fantastic exclusive interviews with stars from past and present; including Tim Sheens and Cameron Smith on Australia’s aims to regain the trophy and New Zealand’s Head Coach Stephen Kearney and captain Simon Mannering, who are hoping to lead the Kiwis to a second successive Final win.
There are interviews with RLIF International Player of the Year Sonny Bill Williams, who is aiming to become the first player to win a World Cup in both codes of rugby, Australian legends Shane Webcke, Darren Lockyer and Brad Fittler, as well as New Zealand’s 2008 Final winning captain Nathan Cayless. Kangaroos second row Sam Thaiday provides a run down on his Australian teammates while Jared Waerea-Hargreaves and Jarryd Hayne take part in the “Tackle Six” feature.
Elsewhere, Premier Sports commentator Andrew Voss goes through his favourite RLWC2013 moments and former Kiwi head coach Frank Endacott explains which players have caught his eye at the tournament. There are also interviews with New Zealand stand-off Kieran Foran, Australia’s Greg Bird plus many more exclusive features.
