New first aid course launched

Community clubs encouraged to sign up for FA-run course.

The RFL will be running two new courses later this month.

The FA Emergency First Aid course – run in conjunction with the Football Association – is designed specifically to meet the needs of first aiders who are responsible for participants in sport.

Ideal for volunteers in community clubs, the RFL will be rolling out the courses in the coming months and the first two are scheduled for:

Tuesday October 29
Thatto Heath Crusaders, St Helens
6.30pm to 9.30pm

Wednesday October 30
Shaw Cross Sharks, Dewsbury
6.30pm to 9.30pm

The three-hour long course will cover a wide variety of topics including:

  • Approach to an incident

  • Assessment of priorities (ABC)

  • Checking responsiveness

  • Opening the airway

  • Checking breathing

  • Checking the pulse

  • Recovery position

  • Breathing for the casualty

  • Chest compressions

  • Combined heart-lung resuscitation

  • Control of bleeding

  • Dressing of wounds

  • Minimising shock

  • Choking

  • Heart attacks

On completion of the course each candidate will receive a certificate issued by the FA and is valid for three years.
