Sheffield Eagles 6-21 Halifax RLFC
Fax on the brink
Halifax are 80 minutes away from the Kingstone Press Championship Grand Final after condemning reigning champions Sheffield Eagles to a 21-6 defeat.
Halifax dominated the first half but were thwarted by stout Sheffield defence as the match remained scoreless.
Second rower Andy Bracek eventually broke the deadlock four minutes into the second half while Steve Tyrer added the conversion and kicked a penalty on the hour to stretch his side's lead to 8-0.
Both sides were briefly reduced to 12 men with the sin-binning of Matt Garside (Sheffield) and Dane Manning (Halifax) in separate incidents.
Craig Ashall made it 9-0 with a drop goal and, although a try from Eagles winger Vinny Finigan, goaled by Dominic Brambani, set up a nailbiting finish, Paul Handforth and skipper Scott Murrell settled it with late tries for the visitors.
