Sheffield Eagles 36-26 Hunslet Hawks
Brambani hits a new high for Eagles
Dominic Brambani brought the curtain down on the Don Valley Stadium in record-breaking fashion as Sheffield Eagles consolidated their position at the top of the Kingstone Press Championship with a 36-26 win over Hunslet.
Brambani, who last Sunday broke the Sheffield club record for points in a season held by coach Mark Aston, kicked four goals to take his total for the year to 149 and smash Aston's goalkicking record which had stood since 1989.
Sheffield's victory, in the final league game to be played at Don Valley before the stadium is pulled down, keeps them three points in front of Featherstone with two games left to play.
The Hawks had led 12-0 thanks to early tries from Lee Mapals and Andrew Yates, both converted by David March, but Menzie Yere's 40th try of the season, which took him above Wigan winger Josh Charnley in the list of leading scorers, got the home side back in the game.
The Eagles then struck twice in quick succession just before half-time through Michael Knowles and James Davey to edge 16-12 ahead and, although the visitors battled to the end, winger Vinny Finnigan's second try seven minutes from the end dashed their hopes.
Mapals completed his hat-trick just before the end to earn his side a crucial bonus point in their battle to avoid relegation.
