Cockayne wary of wounded Hull

Wakefield Trinity Wildcats winger Ben Cockayne has dismissed talk of a wobble at Hull FC ahead of their Monday night meeting.

Wakefield Trinity Wildcats winger Ben Cockayne has dismissed talk of a wobble at Hull FC as his side seek to avoid a hat-trick of defeats at the hands of the Black and Whites.

Hull's top-four hopes have been dented by back-to-back away defeats at the hands of Catalan Dragons and Castleford Tigers but Cockayne, a former Hull KR favourite, reckons they remain a force to be reckoned with.

"I don't think they're wobbling," he said. "I think they've been in great form.

"They had a bit of a slip-up at Cas last week but, if you looked in the stand at the quality of players they had missing, it's kind of an excuse for them, although the coach won't have that.

"I think this is one of those games where you've got to just do your best, put your game plan together, everybody work hard and hopefully get something out of it."

The Wildcats lost at home to Hull in Super League in April and went out of the Challenge Cup at the KC Stadium in May but they are buoyed by consecutive wins over Salford City Reds and London Broncos and have not given up hope of repeating last year's late-season surge which took them into the play-offs.

"We're probably going to have to do something similar to what we did last year, although hopefully it will not be as nip-and-tuck as it was last year," Cockayne said.

"We're still in a good position and, if we keep playing well and performing like we have done the last couple of weeks we're in with a chance.

"I wouldn't say last year was a miracle but it was probably quite a big one-off. It gives us that kind of confidence that we can go on and do it again.

"I think we're in a positive frame of mind at the minute. We're on the back of two wins and we all know that, when Wakefield play well together, we can match anybody, especially offensively.

"Hopefully they'll be a bit wary of us and so they should be.

"Hull have done us twice this year so I suppose you could say we owe them one but we'll treat it as any other game and do our best."
