Leigh Centurions 23-6 Batley Bulldogs
Brierley helps Leigh reach final
Scrum-half Ryan Brierley scored a hat-trick of tries to help three-times winners Leigh reach the Northern Rail Cup final with a 23-6 win over Batley in the first semi-final at Leigh Sports Village.
Brierley touched down twice in the first 17 minutes and Martin Ridyard added both conversions to give the Centurions a 12-0 lead.
Batley prop Alex Rowe brought his side back into it with a 28th-minute try, goaled by Gareth Moore, but Ridyard's drop goal made it 13-6 at half-time.
The Bulldogs applied the pressure at the start of the second half but wingers Greg Johnson and Jonny Campbell had tries disallowed by video referee Ian Smith and their hopes were ended when Brierley completed his hat-trick on the hour.
Centre Matt Gardner then scored a breakaway try five minutes from the end to the seal the Centurions' place in the final at Halifax on July 20 where they will meet the winners of Friday's second semi-final between Doncaster and Sheffield Eagles.
