Batley Bulldogs 8-14 Sheffield Eagles
Eagles flying high
Sheffield Eagles extended their winning run to 13 matches with a hard-fought 14-8 victory over Batley at Mount Pleasant to open up a five-point lead in the Kingstone Press Championship.
Second rower Michael Knowles gave the visitors the lead with a fourth-minute try, but Batley took a 6-4 lead thanks to a touchdown from Ben Black, goaled by Gareth Moore.
Sheffield regained the advantage courtesy of an opportunist score from Pat Walker, who stole the ball from winger Gareth Potts as he attempted to clear his own line, and Dominic Brambani's goal made it 10-6 at half-time.
Second rower Duane Straugheir made sure of the points for the Eagles when he went over for a third try on 51 minutes to bring Batley's six-match winning run to an end.
