Nathan Massey signs contract extension with Castleford
Castleford Tigers is delighted to confirm that Nathan Massey has signed a one-year contract extension until the end of the 2015 season.
The 23-year-old prop is a product of the Tigers’ Youth Development System who has rose through the ranks since joining aged 15.
Massey made his debut for the Tigers in 2007 and has gone on to play over 60 Super League games for the Club.
The number 16 said that he was thrilled to extend his stay with the Club that he feels is home.
“I’m over the moon to sign a 12 month extension to my contract with the Club.
“I’ve never looked for another Club as I’ve never wanted to leave, I’ve got a young family, my partner is happy where I am and she loves the Club too so I’m really delighted.
“Discussions on extending my contract started before Daryl was appointed at the start of May. Luckily when he came in he said that he wanted to retain me which was brilliant.
“I sat down with Daryl after the Catalan Dragons game and asked him about where he could see my future. Straight away he said that he wanted to keep me at the Club and that he saw my future here, so it was good that we were both on the same page just a couple of weeks after he came.
“I will have been here for quite a while when this contract is up but I will still only be 25-years-old, so it’s similar to Craig Huby who has been at the Club the longest and is one of the most senior guys. I just hope that I can keep kicking on, stay injury free and keep playing well for the Club.
“I’d like to thank the fans for their support and ask them to keep sticking with us by getting down in numbers for tomorrow’s match versus Hull FC – hopefully we will get a win for them.”
Castleford Tigers Head Coach, Daryl Powell was also pleased to secure Massey for an additional season.
“I am delighted that Nathan has agreed to extend his contract with the Club.
“He is a player who has improved significantly over the past few years and one who is still getting better every week.
“His commitment is excellent and his footwork and growing ability with the ball are qualities much sought after in a player.
“He is also an aggressive defender as his battle with Jamie Peacock in our last game versus Leeds Rhinos showed.”
