Swinton Lions 14-36 Doncaster RLFC
Doncaster seal place in last four
Doncaster became the first team to reach the last four of the Northern Rail Cup thanks to a 36-14 win over Swinton in Thursday night's quarter-final at Leigh Sports Village.
Veteran playmaker Paul Cooke carved out early tries for centre Chris Spurr and winger Stewart Sanderson and, with centre Danny Cowling also going over, the visitors were cruising at 18-0 after 24 minutes.
The Lions struck back with tries from Gene Ormsby, Craig Harvey and Matt Sarsfield to cut the gap to just four points before Doncaster pulled away with late tries from Lee Waterman, Craig Fawcett and Mike Emmett, with Sanderson kicking his sixth goal from as many attempts.
