Hunslet Hawks 24-31 Halifax RLFC
Halifax keep on Eagles' tail
Second-placed Halifax maintained the pressure on leaders Sheffield by running out 31-24 winners over Hunslet at the South Leeds Stadium.
Stand-off Anthony Thackeray scored two tries for Halifax but their hero was captain Scott Murrell.
The Hawks had come from 18-0 down to draw level at 24-24 thanks to tries from debutant James Coyle, Andrew Yates, Stuart Kain and Liam Welham but Murrell, fresh from signing a two-year contract extension, scored five minutes from time and then added a drop goal to seal a 13th win of the season.
Halifax forward Iain Morrison, who played in Super League with London Broncos, Hull KR and Huddersfield, announced his retirement before kick-off after failing to recover from injury.
