Women's Rugby League World Cup fixtures announced
Organisers of the Festival of World Cups have confirmed the fixtures for the Women’s Rugby League World Cup which will take place in West Yorkshire during July.
Host nation England will vie with current holders New Zealand, Australia and France for supremacy, playing each other once before the top two teams meet at the Festival of World Cups Finals Day on Sunday July 14 at Headingley Carnegie Stadium.
Tickets went on sale for the Finals day in April and can be purchased on line athttps://www.eticketing.co.uk/rle/default.aspx or by calling 0844 477 7113.
The tournament opens on Friday July 5 with New Zealand facing France and England taking on Australia at Dewsbury Rams’ Tetley’s Stadium. The action then moves to Featherstone Rovers’ Bigfella’s Stadium on Monday July 8 where France take on Australia before England meet New Zealand.
The final group games will take place at the LoveRugbyLeague.com Stadium, home of Batley Bulldogs, where Australia meet New Zealand and England square off against France. A third place play-off match will be hosted by Hunslet Hawks and South Leeds Stadium on Saturday July 13.
“We are very excited to be travelling to England to defend the Women’s Rugby League World Cup” said Christine Panapa, Chairperson of the New Zealand Women’s Rugby League.
“Of course, we will be looking to win a fourth consecutive title, but we know we will be up against it from Australia and France and of course England who will be on home soil. All the players have been training especially hard for the tournament and cannot wait to pull on the New Zealand Kiwi Ferns Jersey.
“There is no greater honour than to represent your country and I am sure that all the teams competing in the Women’s World Cup will feel this way, with the additional bonus that they will be raising the profile of not only Women’s Rugby League but also Women’s Sport in general.”
All the matches in the Festival of World Cups held in Batley and Dewsbury are receiving significant support from Kirklees Council, who are assisting with the marketing and promotion of games, the connectivity of the events to local community programmes and supporting the clubs in staging the events.
“We are delighted to be hosting a number of games in the Festival of World Cups and Rugby League World Cup 2013.” said Cllr Jean Calvert, Kirklees Council Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing and Communities.
“The two events have allowed the three professional clubs in the authority to be able to stage International Rugby League games this season and raise the profile of rugby league in Kirklees communities. We are very much looking forward to the events.”
“Hosting the fixtures has enabled us to work with our partners to promote the games and make them a success. We are also delivering a number of initiatives which should see more people get involved in rugby league either as players, coaches or supporters of the game.”
Ticketing details for the group stage games will be announced shortly.
