Winners set to engage again
It’s been a busy start to the 2013 Engage with your club campaign with over 60 clubs already signed up to the initiative since its launch by England head coach Steve McNamara last month.
Included in that number are 2012 winners Birstall Victoria and Burtonwood Bulldogs who will both be holding action days in the hope that they can triumph again.
“Last year was a great success on a number of levels even if we had not won the prize money,” said Birstall’s Paul Frain.
“The safety barrier we erected around the junior pitch not only looks very impressive but it saves our members the time and trouble of putting up rope barriers. Other local clubs have also been sufficiently impressed to ask the use the pitch.
“The campaign helped raise our profile in the local community and as a result the membership of all our junior teams has increased.
“This year our activity will be moving indoors. The club has secured a concert room at a local Working Men’s Club to use as our new base and we will be recruiting volunteers to improve our new off-field facilities.”
Peter McConnell, Burtonwood chairman also spoke of the impact “Engage with your club” has had on his club.
“As a result of last year’s activity we have developed a communal outside area where the club and the community can enjoy social and fundraising events.
“We have made an undertaking that improvements to our facilities will be on-going and last year’s prize money has been used to ensure that our projects can continue.
“Many of our members who volunteered for the first time last year are now committed to getting involved on a regular basis and we are looking forward to arranging this year’s “Action Day.”
