Clough hat-trick inspires Oxford triumph
John Clough scored a second-half hat-trick as Oxford claimed a 40-30 away victory over Gloucestershire All Golds in the battle of the Kingstone Press Championship 1 new-boys.
The All Golds took a 12-0 lead early on with a try apiece from Jordan Rice and Phil Cowburn with Matthew Bradley adding the extras.
But Brett Robinson and Jonny Leather crossed over - with the latter on target with two goals - as the visitors hit back.
Oxford went in-front with a try from Alex Thompson and converted by Leather before a quick response from the All Golds saw Tyla Hepi go over and Bradley kick two goals.
Shaun Robinson scored the final try of the first period on the stroke of half-time as Leather added a goal to hand Oxford a 24-20 lead.
Clough was on fire after the break and claimed the first of his three tries five minutes in with Leather adding the extras, while Tim Bergin crossed over and Hepi got his second for the home side late on.
