St Helens half-back Gary Wheeler has been ruled out for four months with a ruptured hamstring tendon.

The 23-year-old suffered the injury in Friday’s 20-12 home defeat by Leeds Rhinos, which was only his second appearance of the season.

Saints coach Nathan Brown said: “It is unfortunate for Gary and his family because he has had a bit of a run of this over a number of years.”
