Dragons to appeal Bousquet suspension
Catalan Dragons are to appeal against the four-match ban imposed on prop Julian Bousquet.
Bousquet, 22, was sent off just three minutes into his side’s 40-6 win over Salford City Reds in Perpignan on Saturday for a shoulder charge on 18-year-old scrum-half Theo Fages.
Bousquet, who was making only his fourth appearance in Super League, was also fined £300 by the Rugby Football League’s disciplinary committee after pleading guilty to making a grade D dangerous tackle to the head of Fages.
The Dragons are contesting the severity of the punishment but the appeals panel has the power to increase the ban when they hear the case next Tuesday.
Catalan assistant coach David Waite, the former Great Britain head coach, will speak on the player’s behalf at the hearing via Skype.
The incident left Fages unconscious for eight minutes and enraged Salford coach Phil Veivers. The player remained in Perpignan to complete his recovery and is due back at the club tomorrow.
