Haven open with victory

Whitehaven marked their promotion from Championship One with a 32-22 opening-round win over York City Knights.

Whitehaven trailed 12-8 to York at the Recreation Ground but Craig Calvert's 49th-minute score edged them back in front and Chris Fleming, Jesse Joe Parker and Paul Cullnean grabbed late tries to secure the victory.

Hull winger Tom Lineham, playing for the City Knights on a dual registration, scored two late tries for the visitors.
