University Hosts Wheelchair Rugby League Taster

Gloucestershire All Golds to hold Wheelchair rugby taster session...

Budding sportspeople with or without wheelchairs will receive a warm welcome at a Rugby League Taster Session at the University of Gloucestershire.

The event, from 11am until 1pm on Sunday February 3 at the University’s Oxstalls campus is open to all and promises to be a lively introduction to the sport.

Organised by third year Sports Education student Matt Coldrey, the University of Gloucestershire All Golds Wheelchair Rugby League team welcomes players of all abilities and Matt will be running it with the help of placement students Oli Murray and Dorian Ayton who are both in their second year at the university.

Matt was inspired to start the team by his mother who suffers from Multiple Sclerosis, but who still manages to find unique and innovative ways to exercise.

“I am a keen Rugby League player myself and have coached for three years now. The idea for the team came about by accident when I was on placement at the National Star College as part of my Adapted Physical Activity module. A year on we are now ready for the taster session with eight specially adapted wheelchairs, backed by the University and the University of Gloucestershire All Golds team.”

Participants are welcome to turn up at any time. For more information follow the team on Twitter @allgoldscwrl, telephone 07817 895573 or email matt.coldrey@gmail.com
