The University of Gloucestershire All Golds held their first public trial at the former Gloucester Academy school site last weekend (Sunday 9 December) in preparation for their Championship One debut in 2013.

Aspiring professional players from across the country, near and far, including Yorkshire, the Midlands, London, Wales, the South West and Gloucestershire tried out for one of the team places on offer.

Under the watchful eyes of Head Coach Brad Hepi and his support staff in Sports Science, Medical and Strength and Conditioning, participants underwent strict physical endurance tests and assessments before playing a high level trial match.

Hepi is optimistic of assembling a talented young squad and was rich in his praise of the athletes on view, he said: “I was very pleased with the commitment shown and the overall athleticism and skill. We shall now analyse all the data gathered and study the video before making final decisions. There is no doubt that we shall be inviting a significant number of participants to join our residential camp in the New Year in readiness for a clash with a strong military selection.”

“The All Golds will endeavour to retain the services of all those present as those who do not quite make the final selection will be encouraged to gain more experience and knowledge by being invited to join a number of clubs who will become official feeder outfits to the All Golds.”
